The Yale Corporation has introduced a new mechanism to broaden contact to, and counsel from, students, staff, faculty and alumni across the University. Specific trustees have been designated as the Trustee Liaisons to faculty, to students, to staff, and to alumni. These Trustee Liaisons will be responsible for ensuring that there are opportunities for wide consultation with each of the constituencies and for working with the Counselors, whose role is described below.
The Yale Corporation is retaining the practice from the previous search of having a Faculty Counselor to the search process. During this search the Corporation has expanded the concept to include Counselors for students, staff, and alumni. The Counselors will work with the Trustee Liaisons to help solicit input and observations concerning the future direction of the University, the attributes desirable for the next President, and other views and opinions related to the search. The Trustee Liaisons and Counselors will also be available to convey any confidential views or information to the search committee, should members of the University community feel this is appropriate.
The Trustee Liaisons and Campus/Alumni Counselors are as follows:
For Faculty:
Trustee Liaison: Paul Joskow
Campus Counselors: Michael McBride and Ruth Yeazell
For Students:
Trustee Liaison: Peter Dervan
Campus Counselor: Brandon Levin ’14, immediate past President of the Yale College Council
For Staff:
Trustee Liaison: John Rice
Campus Counselor: Janet Lindner, Associate Vice President for Administration
For Alumni:
Trustee Liaison: Donna Dubinsky
Alumni Counselor: Michael Madison ’83, immediate past Chair, AYA Board of Governors
Members of the Corporation and Presidential Search Committee met with a variety of individuals and groups across campus. On September 28, 2012, the Presidential Search Committee began its formal outreach process with a full day of forums and interviews on the Yale campus. These face-to-face meetings included open forums for faculty, staff, and students, as well as small group sessions with representatives of various constituencies:
